Mail Plus mailboxes

POP (Post Office Protocol) is the most used protocol for transferring email from a server to a client (email program of the user). POP3 has been designed in such a way that a client connects with a POP3 server and then retrieves all emails and stores them locally. Next, the messages are removed from the server and the connection is broken. This is the opposite of the more current IMAP system where clients just leave messages on the IMAP-server until the client explicitly removes them. This and other features of the IMAP-system allow several clients to have access to the same mailbox.

You can use both the POP3 and the IMAP system with your Mail Plus Mailboxes.

Outlook Anywhere

Use Outlook Anywhere to connect to your Exchange server without VPN when you are working outside your organization's firewall (eg. at home or on holidays). This allows you to use Outlook just as you normally do at your organization, without the need for any special connections or hardware, such as smart cards and security tokens. Outlook can connect to Exchange through the Internet by using remote procedure call (RPC) over HTTP. The Outlook Anywhere feature allows you to access your Exchange account remotely from the Internet when you are working outside your organization's firewall.

Outlook Web Access

An excellent solution for being able to consult your calendar and email from anywhere is Outlook Web Access. With this Microsoft solution, you can request messages from your inbox on the Microsoft Exchange Server via a standard web browser. Of course, you can also send messages, consult your calendar or search for a contact person. In fact, you can do everything online that you would be able to do at the office with Microsoft Office Outlook 2007

ActiveSync

Microsoft® ActiveSync® is synchronization software for Windows Mobile®-based devices. ActiveSync acts as the gateway between your Windows-based PC and Windows Mobile-based device, enabling the transfer of Outlook information, Office documents, pictures, music, videos and applications to and from your device. In addition to synchronizing with a desktop PC, ActiveSync can synchronize directly with Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 so that you can keep your e-mail, calendar data, tasks and contact information updated wirelessly when you’re away from your PC.

Direct Push

With regular synchronization, your messages will not arrive in real-time (e.g. once every hour). Thanks to Direct Push your messages are delivered directly to your device, without having to wait for synchronization of your inbox and without having to go to a web page for web mail. Direct Push is not only for emails. Other information that is stored on your mail server, such as calendar, tasks and contact data are also synchronized with Direct Push. If your assistant at the office updates your planning, or if you enter a new contact person on your computer, your mobile device will be automatically updated.
