Dell Remote Access Controller - DRAC card
The DRAC card is an insert card for a server that allows you to manage the servers technically via a web interface, even if the operating system on the server is not active, just as if you were sitting in front of a console. The card has its own processor, memory, network connection and a direct access to the system bus of the server.
A DRAC card has the following functions:
- Power management: connect or disconnect the server from a distance.
- Remote console: manage the server from a web interface, just as if you were sitting in front of it.
- Virtual media: connect a local disk to the server, for file copy or installations.
The DRAC card has a separate internal IP address and can always be reached and this independently of the OS working. The DRAC interface can only be reached at this internal IP address, which means that a VPN connection is necessary to use the DRAC card.
