Managed hardware load balancing
In a server architecture with multiple virtual of dedicated servers for one website or application, load balacing can distribute the workload over the servers. Shared load balancing (layer 4 - TCP/UDP level) can be used for 2 or more web-, mail- & streaming servers.
Different kinds of load balancing can be offered: round robin, rated round robin, least connections, weighed least connections, maximum number of connections, backup chaining and backup chaining revert.
You receive 1 extra external IP address for his server that allows you to use the application. Hostbasket activates this on the load balancer. If necessary the Professional Services Team can give some extra advice concerning the implementation on the servers or the different load balancing strategies.
The load balancers are modeled on the master/slave concept. The configurations are installed on the active load balancer and are synchronized with the passive one. If the active one fails, the passive load balancer takes over within 3 seconds.
The load balancers can handle a maximum bandwidth of 1 Gbit/s or 500.000 simultaneous connections.
Advantages
- Higher availability of the applications.
- More reliable than software load balancing.
- Performance benefit up to 40%, even without accelerator.
- Complete redundant solution with an automatic switch between 2 load balancers within 3 seconds.
- Scalable: involve extra servers according to the needs of your application.
- Extra services are possible: SSL termination, acceleration, load balancing over several data centers and layer 7 load balancing.
