Hostbasket protects your mailboxes and (in-house) server from harmful effects of viruses and keeps your mailbox free from unwanted messages and spam.
Virus blocking
Hostbasket continuously scans all emails and attachments for viruses. The emails that contain viruses are immediately removed before they arrive in your mailbox. Our virus software is checked several times a day, so that the most recent viruses are always discovered and removed.
Spam filtering
The new system, developed by the company IronPort, is based on the "sender's reputation". This reputation is built up using emails that are analyzed world-wide in 100,000 networks. This represents 30% of the world-wide email volume. The reputation is continuously updated. Then the content of the email is checked. All emails that contain links to spam sites will be marked and if possible, blocked. Finally, the emails that contain viruses are immediately removed. Only after going through all these checks will your email be delivered to your mailbox. When your sender's reputation is positive, none of his emails will ever be blocked.
Settings
Level 1: Blocking based on the sender's reputation (SBRS)

We first check the "SenderBase Reputation Score (SBRS)", the reputation of the sender of the emails. All emails of which it is 100% certain that they are spam or contain a virus are blocked. The other emails are delivered to your mailbox.
This blocks 95% of all spam emails.
Level 2: SBRS + marking based on the content (Tag spam & newsletters)

Same as level 1, but suspicious emails are marked based on their content.
- Newsletters are marked with the notification [NEWSLETTER] in the subject line.
- Possible SPAM (spam score between 40 and 90) is marked with the notification [POSSIBLE SPAM] in the subject line.
- SPAM (spam score higher than 90) is marked with the notification [SPAM] in the subject line.
- All emails are also scanned for viruses.
If desired you can configure rules in Outlook so suspicious emails will not be delivered in your active mailbox. Use this setting if you want to have a little more control over the emails.
Level 3: SBRS + blocking based on the content (Drop spam 90+ & Tag spam 40+)

Same as level 1, but suspicious emails are removed or marked in the subject line based on their content.

- Possible SPAM (spam score between 40 and 90) is marked with the notification [POSSIBLE SPAM] in the subject line.
- SPAM (spam score higher than 90) is removed so it will not be delivered in your active mailbox.

Level 4: SBRS + blocking based on the content (Drop spam agressive 40+)

- Possible SPAM (spam score between 40 and 90) is removed so it will not be delivered in your active mailbox.
- SPAM (spam score higher than 90) is removed so it will not be delivered in your active mailbox.

If desired you can configure rules in Outlook so suspicious emails will not be delivered in your active mailbox. This is the strictest setting.
For all Mail Plus mailboxes the filter level of all incoming mails is set to level 1 (SBRS). However, you may always opt for a billing filtering which allows you to access levels 2, 3 and 4. You only pay 1 euro/month per mailbox. Contact our Sales Team on 09 326 90 95.
For all Office Mail mailboxes (Exchange) hosted at Hostbasket the filtering of all incoming mails is set to level 3 but you may select another filter level.
When using Remote anti-virus/anti-spam for your own mail server (in your office, as dedicated server or in colocation), the filter level in your MyAccount is always set to 4 by default.
These configurations are always valid for all mailboxes created on a certain domain.
Protect your own mail server
Hostbasket offers complete protection of your email server with an advanced anti-virus and anti-spam filter. Your mail server can be placed in the Hostbasket data centre or within your own company buildings. By adjusting the name servers, all emails will be diverted to the Hostbasket AVAS servers and Backup AVAS servers. They scan all emails and hold back the spam according to your settings. After that, the emails are returned to your own mail server. Don’t lose any more emails, even in the unlikely event that your own mail server is unavailable.
