General
All virtual servers are installed on very powerful Dell PowerEdge hardware. The most recent hardware nodes have two processors and 64 GB RAM. They use a SAN Dell Equalogic storage system with 15000rpm SAS hard disks.
The number of virtual machines running on a physical server depends strongly on the memory and the processor power per virtual server.
There is a maximum of 16 virtual servers (Start or Evolve) or 8 virtual servers (Perform) per physical server.
Hostbasket doesn’t take part in “overcommitting” or “overselling”, a practice whereby a company sells more resources to the customers than it could provide.
The same SLA as for dedicated servers, we guarantee a 99,9% network uptime.
For customers with a Premium Support contract, a penalty regulation has been developed in case the uptime hasn’t been achieved. We also guarantee a 24/7 support and a response time of 1 hour in case of problems.
Applications on virtual servers
Yes, you get full access to your virtual server so you can install without limit all software you wish for.
You get full access to your virtual servers. For Windows servers you get administrator access, for Linux servers root access.
So you get full control over the servers enabling you to install software and to use the server for your applications.
Virtualization technology
Hostbasket uses Hyper-V as hypervisor for its virtual servers. Hyper-V is the Microsoft virtualization technology, integrated in Windows Server 2008.
Principal advantages of Hyper-V :
- Very secure and stable because of the complete isolation between the virtual servers.
- Possibility to have different operating systems on the same hardware node.
- Good support for drivers.
Yes. The indicated server resources (memory, processor capacity and hard disk space) are only reserved for your virtual server. Server resources in Hyper-V (contrary to most other virtualization technologies) have been preconfigured and there is no risk of overcommitment whereby more resources than originally available are assigned to the servers.
Yes. Hostbasket uses Hyper-V as virtualization technology. Hyper-V guarantees a complete isolation between the virtual servers active on the hardware server. Because of this isolation virtual servers are as secure as dedicated servers. However, it’s necessary to install patches and upgrades on a regular basis to guarantee the security of the operating system and the applications.
Attention: Not all virtualization technologies guarantee a complete isolation between the machines. Virtuozzo, for instance, has one operating system for all virtual machines.
The following operating systems can be used on Flex Servers:
- Windows Server 2003 Web Edition Enhanced
- Windows Server 2008 Web Edition
- Ubuntu Linux
